“Le héros de la cuisine”

18 September 2021 - 3 April 2022

The exhibition puts the spotlight on aluminum and tells the story of how it has revolutionized the household arts. This metal shook up the interior of homes when it appeared in the middle of the 20th century, entering first of all, in the daily life of the French by the kitchen. Beyond the pots and pans, or vegetable mills, aluminum will be present in new electrical equipment such as irons, or vacuums. It will gradually spread throughout the house and will then become indispensable. Liberator of the population' daily life, he will become the star of the technical revolutions of his time.

Its invention, made possible by the discovery of bauxite two hundred years ago (March 1821), is now highlighted in the Musée des Gueules Rouges, which traces the exploitation of this alumina-rich ore in Provence.

The exhibition relates the singular evolution of aluminum, this “kitchen hero”, durable, unchangeable and always shiny, conquering French homes and serving the housewife of the 20th century. To be discovered from 18 September 2021 to 3 April 2022.
