Inauguration of “Rise-Collapse” by Ugo Schiavi in the sculpture garden

7 July 2023 @ 17h30 - 20h30

Free

The town of Chateauvert is pleased to invite you to the inauguration of Rise-Collapse d’Hugh Slaves, work that joins the collection of sculptures in the garden of the art center Friday 7 July at 5:30 p.m..

The sculptures of’Hugh Slaves appear as body fragments eroded by time, intended for an archeology of the future. By remaining faithful to its practice of taking and capturing the outside world, the artist produces telescopings of temporality and civilization, ranging from ancient culture to that of industrial overproduction. He designs hybrid beings : sorts of composite chimeras made up of heterogeneous objects and materials, as sprung from the unconscious of our post-industrial societies.

This work was produced for the Sleepless night in Paris in 2018. It was then presented during the edition 2022 of the Ecstatic at La Défense then at the Jardin des Tuileries as part of Paris+ by Art Basel and the exhibition The rest of the story imagined by the exhibition curator Annabelle Ténèze, director of the slaughterhouses in Toulouse.

Rise-Collapse is a cast of the genius of the Republic, from the sculpted group The triumph of the Republic by Jules Dalou located on Place de la Nation, to which are added other contemporary sculptural elements in a form of sought-after anachronism. These overturned sculptural fragments now spill out like an overgrown contemporary ruin in the sculpture garden of the contemporary art center of Châteauvert seeming to tell a new story.
