Welcome to the garden – From my window, exposition de Rudy Ayoun

After language studies in Aix-en-Provence, Rudy Ayoun enters the Beaux-Arts de Marseille, finding in painting a new language to communicate with the greatest number. In fourth year, he left for Holland for a semester at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam where he co-founded, with the support of his school, a gallery workshop : la Pop Up Gallery Local. Graduated in June 2018, he co-founded in December of the same year the gallery workshop Destre, free space in Marseille. He is a boarder at Casa Velasquez in 2020/21.

Storytelling questions, of construction and fragmentation of the narrative are central in his paintings. They are also accompanied by a reflection on the painted space. Places and objects then take on increasing importance in his paintings., as the representation of the human figure becomes rare. This absence thus draws a hollow narrative, a game of clues and questions delivered to the viewer. Who lives in these spaces ? Who uses these objects ? With whom ? In what context ?

Les peintures de Rudy Ayoun, just like their arrangement in a particular scenography, then impose themselves as fragments of space that dialogue with each other. By combining them, the spectator fills in the off-screen, giving free rein to an implicit narration that varies according to the point of view.

This singular positioning allows Rudy Ayoun to examine contemporary pictorial practice in a more global way., through a series of central questions : what to paint today ? how to paint it ? How to show it ? He realizes in September 2021 his first landscapes in the studio located in the old presbytery of the village as part of the Cultural Summer set up by the Ministry of Culture during which he will intervene in the children's house The Rise. It is these landscapes that are exhibited in the workshop of the art center.
