Workshop “Gestures and sounds” with Bernard Pourriere – Guy de Maupassant College, Gareoult

The Provence Verte Agglomeration and the Châteauvert contemporary art center are developing a partnership with the Guy de Maupassant secondary school in Garéoult by inviting the artist Bernard Pourrière to carry out a Gestures and sounds workshop with a 5th grade class which will lead to a performance under form of ambulation in the college on 13 April at the end of the day.

This workshop around sound performance is a work that takes into account the body in space, both in his gestures and movements, only in the sounds it can generate by its movements. It also aims to awaken students to our immediate environment., to noises, to the sounds that surround us, to everyday sounds.

These actions develop contradictions such movement/immobility, speed/exhaustion, sound/silence and thus activate fields of experimentation between space and sound, speed and slowness, expectation and action. Sound offers other ways to move, we will look for different body positions and different movements in relation to the sounds. By manipulating various objects, and machines this workshop, who wants to be creative, will also offer to experiment with other ways of approaching the sound material.

Since the beginning of his work Bernard Pourrière has wondered about the evolution and transformation of living things in relation to new technologies. He is interested in the notions of space-time, travel, movements and gestures of the body in space in correlation with multimedia. He develops experimental sound work at the end of the nineties until today in performances, but also in sometimes interactive installations. On many occasions he has collaborated with musicians, dancers and choreographers, and produced a large number of soundtracks for artists' videos.
