Welcome to the garden #3 – Meeting with the artist Léo Fourdrinier
28 July 2023 @ 19h00 - 21h00
freeFriday 28 July at 7 p.m. , the artist Léo Fourdrinier presents his new in situ installation on the bed of the Argens, nurtured by two weeks of residence and exploration of the surrounding territory at the contemporary art center of Châteauvert. His new works evoke the fluidity of feelings, whose movements that run through lands and beings echo the river. The infinite flow of water punctuates the exhibition like the promise of an enlightened crossing, where the fragmented representations of the body - produced in collaboration with adolescents from the Le Phoenix day hospital- blend into the landscape.
Inspired by mythology, antiquity and archeology, Léo Fourdrinier designs sculptures and installations that combine archetypal iconography with found objects and more intimate elements. Neon light installations bathe his sculptural works in a synthetic amber hue reminiscent of an artificial sunset. Light creates a dreamlike atmosphere for his surreal combinations of classic shapes and technological scraps with contrasting textures made of metal, stone and synthetic plastic. By diverting altered universal symbols from the past, Léo Fourdrinier shows how they can change the perception of contemporary and future realities.
Léo Fourdrinier, born in 1992, lives and works in Toulon. Graduated from the Higher School of Arts and Media of Caen/Cherbourg in 2017, he recently exhibited his work at the 16th Biennale of Contemporary Art in Lyon, at the Contemporary Art Center of Nîmes, at the 9th Révélations Émerige Scholarship (Paris, Toulon, Madrid), at the Ephemeral Arts festival (Marseille)… Also exhibition curator, he benefits for three years from the status of associated artist within the third-place Le Port Des Créateurs.
Léo Fourdrinier is in residence at the art center, as part of the “Reopen the World” program, a device of the DRAC PACA set up by the Ministry of Culture.
