SUMMARY:CHEESE MUSEUM\, exposition de Nicolas BOULARD
DESCRIPTION:Nicolas Boulard\, born in 1976 à Reims\, studied at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg, from which he graduated in art in 2002. Il rejoint ensuite le Collège Invisible\, post-graduation in network from l'école des Beaux-Arts of Marseille. His artistic work has been presented in several solo exhibitions in France (Frac Champagne-Ardenne\, Frac Alsace\, Frac Aquitaine\, art center la Halle des bouchers) and abroad (Moma de San Francisco\, Machine Project à Los Angeles\, S-air in Japan). Il vit à Clamart\, en Île de France. \nDepuis près de 20 ans\, this artist develops a protean and singular practice. Doté d’une parfaite connaissance des règlementations du monde du vin\, it is as an authentic specialist that the artist has transgressed the traditional norms of production by planting a vineyard in a trailer (Clos Mobile 2009)\, by producing a phantom vintage of the famous Romanée Conti grand cru (DRC 1946\, 2007) ou en récoltant du raisin dans les supermarchés de Reims pour produire un Grand vin de Reims en 2006. Par ces gestes iconoclastes\, the intention is to produce new forms. Since 2010\, il travaille sur un projet intitulé Specific Cheeses\, a study on the similarity of the forms of Minimal Art and cheeses. Cette recherche artistique s’est développée sous la forme de performances avec la confrérie Specific Cheeses\, of lectures (Cheese Theory and Cheese Analyse) et d’éditions avec les fanzines Specific Cheeses qui compilent dans 12 numbers an anthology of the representation of cheese in the arts from the Middle Ages to the present day. Que ce soit dans ces projets sur le vin\, le fromage ou le pain\, it is in full awareness of current environmental issues that the artist has cooperated with personalities committed to natural practices and respectful of ecosystems. \nNicolas Boulard réalise des sculptures et des installations en assemblant des références du Minimal art et de l’art conceptuel avec des matériaux organiques issus\, pour la plupart\, food productions. Ses œuvres perturbent\, avec beaucoup d’esprit\, l’esthétique aseptisée du minimalisme américain en s’inspirant des formes structurées issues du fromage\, wine or bread. His work is characterized by the appropriation of materials from fermentation to produce an atypical and unique work : fermentation is the passage from one state to another where the action of micro-organisms such as yeast irreversibly modifies the original nature of a material. This transformation process is as much a source of inspiration as a working method. Par des découpes de bois ou de feutre\, des impressions sur papier en grand format\, des moulages en plâtre ou en bronze\, his works give an account of an ongoing process. En s’inspirant d’éléments prélevés dans son environnement quotidien et dans l’histoire de l’art\, ses œuvres prennent une apparence incertaine\, like taken in an intermediate state. The geometric aesthetic disrupted by the use of living materials reminds us that art is a practice of transition. \nPar l’utilisation de matériaux naturels comme le feutre ou le bois\, his works allow to isolate strong concepts and make us live a particular experience. His artistic practice places the viewer in an ambiguous situation with the work : it is in front of the ornamental extravagance of a tapestry realized from the image of penicillium diffusing in a slice of roquefort cheese (Penicillium #1 and #2) or the strange arrangement of cavities in the crumb of disproportionately enlarged slices of bread carefully cut from poplar boards (Bread #1 and #2). Ces assemblages s’apparentent aux grotesques qui\, à différentes périodes de l’histoire de l’art\, ont intrigué en mettant en avant un goût de l’hybridation\, of metamorphosis and caricature. \nPour son exposition intitulée Cheese Museum au centre d’art de Châteauvert\, Nicolas Boulard wanted to bring together recent works. Le partie pris d’une scénographie muséale immerge le visiteur dans un environnement structuré par des œuvres de grand format\, sculptures and a selection of objects from the collections of the Mucem. DESCRIPTION:PROJET & CONTEXTE \nCréé en 2014\, situé dans un cadre verdoyant en plein cœur de la Provence Verte\, le centre d’art contemporain de Châteauvert propose deux expositions par an\, a cycle of conferences and/or events related to the exhibitions as well as residence times. Located in a park of more than 9 hectares\, the contemporary art center of Châteauvert is surrounded by a garden of sculptures whose genesis dates back some thirty years. The contemporary art center has been offering artist residencies for 2018. \nIl est porté depuis 2015 by the Provence Verte Agglomeration Community. \nD’une superficie de 952 km²\, the Provence Verte Agglomeration Community includes 28 municipalities representing a population of 105.000 people around. Territoire rural\, the very name of Provence Verte alone carries meaning and values. \nChâteauvert est un village de 140 habitants environ situé au nord de St-Maximin-la Sainte-Baume et de Brignoles\, entre champs\, vineyards and forests. \nSaint-Maximin s’étale au pieds du Massif de la Sainte-Baume\, in the basin of an ancient dry lake. The city is located equidistant from the first Alpine foothills and the sea and has 16.500 habitants. \nLa résidence proposée par le centre d’art contemporain de Châteauvert en partenariat avec la ville de St-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume et le centre social et culturel Martin Bidouré en 2022 and 2023 est une résidence de médiation\, research and production based on a rehabilitation project for Place Martin Bidouré in St-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. \nUn ensemble de bâtiments insalubres\, partly consolidated by ipn – which seem to be a contemporary echo of the buttresses of the city’s gothic basilica – \, will then be destroyed before giving way to a new urban project. \nL’artiste est invité à imaginer un projet qui pourra prendre place dans cet espace public en utilisant pour partie\, et de quelque manière que ce soit\, les matériaux de la destruction des bâtiments\, materials perceived here as a memory of a living place very frequented by the inhabitants of the district. L’artiste se placera ainsi dans la tradition du remploi\, chère à l’histoire de l’art depuis l’Antiquité\, while paying particular attention to the essential role of artistic creation in raising awareness and implementing concrete solutions for sustainable development. \nUn travail en amont sera mis en place par l’équipe de médiation du centre d’art contemporain avec les usagers du centre social et culturel Martin Bidouré se trouvant sur cette place. \nLa résidence 2022 will give rise to two public meetings to present the project : in St-Maximin and Châteauvert.
